About Micki

While still in high school Micki became chorus master for a teen-directed summer musical theater company and fell in love with teaching others to sing well. After FSU she focused on teaching voice and piano as adjunct faculty at Rhodes College, then chorus in the Memphis City Schools. Finding more satisfaction with the weekly preparation of choral anthems in the church world, she went on to study further at Yale in order to increase her skills for serving as Director of Music in various churches.  All the while she maintained a private studio for teaching both piano and voice.

While Micki teaches students of all ages and levels, she especially loves starting students out.

Micki takes her responsibility seriously to be sure every student has healthy habits, understands the whys of the exercises and music to be learned, and even offers some students a chance to perform at a music camp she runs in the summers.

Experienced in coaching singers for auditions and recitals, she has assisted students in earning scholarships for performance degrees in college. Also a veteran of teaching many freshman theory classes, she tutors high school musicians in AP Theory classes.

Micki is known for her patience and humor in the studio, whether online or in person. Students enjoy their lessons.

During the pandemic, we switched to teaching music online and found it effective! For instance, by fall 2022, I had three former voice students studying music in college, with two as voice principles and one as a voice performance major. The online format saves students and parents time, and allows me to charge lower fees, without reducing the quality of the educational experience.
